Customs
The EU customs and VAT landscape is complex, but Rietveld simplifies it by acting as a direct representative, managing tasks on behalf of clients.
When goods enter or leave the EU, customs obligations arise, requiring permits to ensure compliance. Many goods arrive with T1 status, indicating pending customs duties and VAT, and must remain under customs supervision until assigned a procedure. For example, goods at the Port of Rotterdam stay under control until documentation is finalized.
The required customs documents depend on the client’s needs. For goods to be re-exported, maintaining T1 status and using customs warehouses is beneficial. For goods destined for EU sale, declaring them for import and settling duties immediately is the better option
